Creative Assembly is offering Total War: SHOGUN 2 for free during their upcoming sale. The sale will begin on Steam starting on April 27 at 18:00 BST. Total War: SHOGUN 2 will be downloadable for free at this point, and will remain yours permanently. The giveaway ends on May 1, though the franchise sale will continue afterwards until May 4. The giveaway is being done to promote the continued “Stay at Home, Save Lives” movement during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Creative Assembly is now fully working from home, so the gesture is intended to help offset the potential boredom of lockdown. This does not include the Fall of the Samurai expandalone or other DLC, however.
In addition to SHOGUN 2 and DLC, the franchise sale will include selected historical Total War games. The full list will be on Steam when the sale begins, though it will not include the Rome, Three Kingdoms, or Warhammer Total War games. It will likely contain Medieval 2: Total War however, which tends to be a favourite of modders. Even if historical strategy isn’t your thing, perhaps you’d rather try Hyrule: Total War? There’s even The Witcher: Total War in development, as we reported on previously.
Total War: SHOGUN 2 first released in 2011 and was quite well received, with many citing it as the best in the franchise. It’s definitely worth checking out if you’re a fan of the more contemporary Total War games. You can play campaigns fully co-op, so even that can help beat the quarantine blues. Besides, it’s hard to beat that asking price! Be sure to check it out on Steam from April 27, and don’t let your displays be shameful!
