My Friend Pedro looks like a 2D Max Payne with even crazier gunplay. Developer DeadToast Entertainment has gone completely over-the-top and I dig it so much. There aren’t many other games I’m looking forward to as much as this one and, fortunately, I don’t have to wait long. In a bullet-riddled short trailer, publisher Devolver Digital finally announced the release date. Give it a look below.
My Friend Pedro is described by the devs as “a violent ballet about friendship, imagination, and one’s man’s struggle to obliterate anyone in his path at the behest of a sentient banana”. Never has a game’s elevator pitch sold me so immediately. My Friend Pedro looks absolutely beautiful in action, as players use slow-mo and split gun aiming to engage in some of the most cinematic, yet dynamic combat I’ve ever seen.
As you jump through the air, you’ll twist and turn to give yourself openings from which to decimate your enemies. Each gun can be aimed independently, letting you take out multiple enemies at once. The frenzied carnage is incredible to watch and looks like it will be even more fun to play.
The game isn’t all about running-and-gunning though. There will be moments where gameplay slows as you try to solve different physics-based puzzles. Plus, the devs are mixing things up with sequences like an exhilarating motorcycle chase. That said, this is a game about full throttle combat. Expect to get your adrenaline pumping early and often.
My Friend Pedro is coming to Nintendo Switch and PC on June 20. That’s only about two weeks away, so get your trigger fingers ready.
