Everyone’s favorite ninja will be surfing his way to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC on July 11, 2019, in the previously announced DLC, The Messenger: Picnic Panic.

During the Devolver Big Fancy Press Conference 2019 (which was absolutely wild, by the way), a trailer boasting some new gameplay from the expansion was revealed. You’ll “embark on the perfect ninja vacation” as the Messenger fights his way through a new tropical island to save the phobekin from the evil General Barma’thazël.

The original composer of the base game’s soundtrack, Rainbowdragoneyes, is back with 18 original tracks for The Messenger: Picnic Panic. The trailer gives you a little sneak peek of what you can expect, and like the base game’s soundtrack, it’s very good.

Lastly, The Messenger: Picnic Panic will be absolutely free. So, whether you already own the game on any of the given platforms, or you are just beginning your journey as the Messenger, you’ll get the expansion at no additional cost. However, you will need to beat the base game in order to unlock the expansion.

At PAX East earlier this year, we got to check out a small piece of The Messenger: Picnic Panic. While we didn’t get to cloudstep or travel through time portals, we did get to surf with Ruxxtin to the new island and fight a giant octopus. While the portion we played was very short, we said, “this beginning part was really fun and made me want to play The Messenger all over again”

The Messenger is available now on PS4, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
