Bloober Team’s The Medium is set to launch in just a few short weeks on PC and Xbox Series X. The next-gen psychological horror title has you playing as the titular medium who can go between worlds to solve puzzles. Today, Bloober Team shared a new, live-action trailer for the game. As you might expect, it’s a horrifying sight to behold. Give it a watch below.
It’s hard to say how much of this imagery will make it into the actual game. Instead, it’s probably better to just see this as a tone piece. If the tone is pants-wetting creepy, they’ve absolutely nailed it. That gigantic monster with like eight arms, in particular, is something I never want to see again. It’ll be interesting to see if the game matches the scale of moments like that, but given that it’ll let you move through dimensions, I wouldn’t be surprised.
This looks to be a return to form for Bloober Team. I’m not going to say their Blair Witch game was bad, but I didn’t think it capitalized on everything the studio does so well. In contrast, Layers of Fear is deeply unsettling, which seems to be what they’re going for again with The Medium.
I also can’t wait to see how the game looks in action. Bloober Team just put out Observer: System Redux on next-gen consoles and it looks phenomenal. Hopefully, they’re able to build on that work with this game.
The Medium launches on PC and Xbox Series X on January 28.
