Third-person horror games are scary, but first-person horror games are scarier. When you look at first-person titles like Amnesia: Dark Descent, Outlast, and Resident Evil 7 remind us that the fear strikes that much harder when your field of view is limited. While the horror genre sometimes needs the third person in order to execute its action sequences, there’s nothing like getting back to the basics, and a newly discovered console command in The Evil Within 2 on PC allows you to do just that.

You can find some gameplay in the first person perspective from YouTuber SkacikPL below.

To activate the first-person mode, players must pull up the console commands and enter “pl_FPS 1” at which point the game will become entirely playable from the first-person point of view, and all the more terrifying because you can’t see what’s right behind you.

While the game wasn’t designed to run this way, and trust me you will find some strange interactions, it is still fun to be able to vary your experience. All the dark hallways feel make you feel even more claustrophobic when you can only see what’s ahead of you.

The Evil Within 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. in case you missed it, you can check out the launch trailer for the game here. You can also check out a list of the game’s trophy’s here.
