It seems that last couple of weeks everyone has only been talking about Marvel’s Spider-Man. That is within reason though. The game has become the fastest selling PlayStation first-party title of all time and has received incredible scores from all over the Internet, including your friendly neighborhood DualShockers. Well, that trend is still going strong.
Bill Rosemann, Creative Director at Marvel Games, responded to a GameSpot tweet that went over why Marvel’s Spider-Man selling so well was so important. He built upon the idea of the title being “the Iron Man of Marvel video games” — a quote that originated with Bryan Inthihar (Creative Director at Insomniac Games) during a conversation with Kinda Funny Games. The tweet can be seen below:
One of my fave parts of this video is when @bryanintihar talks about how Marvel’s Spider-Man is intended as “the Iron Man of Marvel video games,” which is exactly how we view it. As with that first MCU hit, #SpiderManPS4 kicks off a new era for Marvel console games. #BeGreater https://t.co/U1eHdZEmoe

I love this idea. The first Iron Man was one of the first comic book movies that brought the Marvel Universe into the mainstream movie world. Now, if this incredible game can start off a “new era of Marvel console games” as described in the tweet above, we could possibly see a plethora of quality titles based on comic book superheroes. Maybe even a connected universe such as in the movies.
Marvel’s Spider-Man is currently available for PS4. If you’re not one of the 3.3 million who have already purchased the game, you can head over to Amazon and place your order right now.
