Despite holding a Direct Mini just last week, most of Nintendo’s major releases for the latter portion of 2020 still seem to be shrouded in secrecy. Based on some new reports that have come about, however, it seems like we’re set to get a whole lot of Mario later in the year.
In a new article originally from VGC, it was said that Nintendo is looking to go all-out for Mario’s 35th anniversary. In particular, Nintendo will be bringing back a variety of the Italian plumber’s most beloved adventures from the past to the Switch. Among these releases is said to be a remastered version of Super Mario Galaxy and a Deluxe Edition of the Wii U-exclusive Super Mario 3D World. In terms of new titles altogether, it was also claimed that sources have informed the outlet that a new entry in the Paper Mario series will also be arriving in 2020.
Soon after VGC’s report went live, Eurogamer corroborated the story saying that similar sources have also informed them of the same plans. Outlet Gematsu has also claimed that remasters of Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine are also planned to release, too.
While Nintendo hasn’t confirmed any of this just yet, as the saying goes, where there is smoke, there is fire. The fact that so many publications seem to have heard similar things from their own sources seems to indicate that these Super Mario remasters and new releases are very likely to be coming to Switch. While this continues to give the Switch new ports of old releases rather than entirely new games, I don’t think many will complain whatsoever about potentially having every major Mario title on a single platform. Personally, I’d happily replay all of these rumored games on the Switch.
If this is indeed what Nintendo has up its sleeve for later in 2020, then we should start to hear more about their plans in the coming months. In the meantime, I’ll keep crossing my fingers that Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is among those titles that might be remastered for Switch. Please, Doug Bowser. Please.
