Star Citizen developer Cloud Imperium Games released a new video about the game’s single-player campaign Squadron 42.
We get to see the game’s developers as they explain how the Coil has created and the many challenges that they faced in designing such a complex environment. We also get to see the concept artwork that inspired it, and some chunks of footage showing how it looks in game, and it looks amazing.
Especially impressive is the volumetric tech that creates some beautiful cosmic clouds fully affected by lighting.
The Coil was introduced in the spectacular vertical slice of gameplay that we saw in December. It’s formed by the remains of a planet that was affected by a cosmic explosion and completely destroyed.
You can check the video below. If you want to see and learn more of Squadron 42, you can enjoy the spectacular vertical slice of the single-player campaign, and a version of the same footage with commentary from the developers, a teaser featuring Mark Hamill. You can also read more about the soundtrack, and the plans for the next major update to the persistent universe alpha, that will be alpha 3.1 in March.
For the sake of full disclosure, you should keep in mind that the author of this post is one of the backers of Star Citizen‘s crowdfunding campaign.
