Nintendo’s signature third-person “shooter” Splatoon 2 is right around the corner, and the House of Mario isn’t shy showing off the additions that the sequel is bringing to the table. In Nintendo Treehouse’s E3 Livestream, the Nintendo staff and the Squid Research Lab development team on site demoed Splatoon 2‘s single player mode.
The demo starts off in Inkopolis Square — the new hub area — where the Inkling entered a manhole cover to arrive at Tentakeel Outpost. In single player mode, you are tasked with taking out different stages in the Octarion Homeworld. The mode largely acts as a training ground to let people hone their skills for the PvP action that comes later. Also, interestingly, the single-player mode gets specialized weapons that aren’t available elsewhere.
The video then largely showcases different weapons, armor, stages, and upgrades you can gain throughout the single-player mode.
Splatoon 2 had a small but special presence at E3, with the announcement of a Splatoon 2 World Inkling Invitational that has already come and gone. On top of that, a perfectly colorful, partly-transparent Splatoon-themed Pro Controller for Nintendo Switch was revealed coming July 21, 2017 for $69.99.
Splatoon 2 is Nintendo’s major summer game for Nintendo Switch, releasing (also) on July 21, 2017. Check out the single-player demo below as well as the Turf War mode:
