If you’re old enough to remember the original Lemmings that burst onto the gaming scene in 1991, then you probably remember how addicting it was and especially trying to kill the little dopey green creatures in the most inhuman way as possible – hey, there was no internet ok?
Lemmings was released firsty by publisher Psygnosis which became part of Sony and now today, PlayStation has launched a brand-new Lemmings game for mobile, which is free and out now for iOS and Android. The title so far has quite mixed reviews on the Google Play store with some not too happy at all the game has micro-transactions and that it doesn’t feel like a Lemmings game anymore due to “in-game consumables like Candy Crush designed to keep you paying.”
I’ve personally downloaded it myself as I loved wasting away hours on my Game Boy in the ’90s with this title, but I haven’t got far enough into the game to give a clear enough perspective, although it’s super cute and colorful.
Developer Sad Puppy who have developed the new Lemmings, took to the PlayStation Blog to talk about the new title:
“We took the Lemmings experience that people know and love and re-engineered it to make the most of smartphones and tablets. We’ve designed levels that are played in portrait orientation, as this is the most comfortable position to hold a device with one hand…”
“…We worked tirelessly on touch controls, removing secondary elements like camera control and making it as simple for players to assess the level, plan a strategy and execute it. It’s the Lemmings game you know and love, redesigned for the best experience on your device. Under your direction, they’ll dig, climb, build, block and fall through levels, with an ease of control that is both fun and challenging.”
Lemmings is available to download for free on the App Store and also the Google Play Store today.
