We won’t have to wait too much longer for a skateboarding simulation game to hit consoles. Skater XL will be coming to PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam in July 2020.
Alongside the release window, new content for Skater XL was revealed. Pro skaters Brandon Westgate, Tiago Lemos, Evan Smith, and Tom Asta will be playable characters. Each will be outfitted with their own gear, similar to what you would see in real life. Additionally, the first map revealed for the full release is Downtown Los Angeles. From the trailer below, you can see some well-known and familiar locations.

Skater XL is developed by indie developer Easy Day Studios. It is a skateboard simulation akin to the beloved Skate, however, it features a very different control scheme. Rather than one stick controlling how the board flips, you use both sticks to position your feet. You then flick each stick a certain direction depending on the trick. From my brief experience, Skater XL has a higher skill ceiling, but it is still a lot of fun experimenting with the control scheme.
From Skater XL‘s website, you will also be able to create your own character. You can customize what your character looks like, including what shirts, hoodies, hats, or shoes they will wear. So, you’ll be stylin’ as you hit some gnarly spots at Staples Center.
As mentioned, Skater XL will be available on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC via Steam in July 2020. However, if you just cannot wait to play Easy Day Studios’ upcoming game, it is available through Steam Early Access right now.
Skater XL is not the only skateboarding simulation game coming to consoles. Session is slated to launch in Spring 2020 for Xbox One and PC. Like Easy Day Studios’ game, you can check out Session right now via Steam Early Access.
