If you were hoping that those recent rumors of Sony and Konami looking to revive the Silent Hill series were true, I’m sorry to tell you that it won’t be happening, at least not according to Konami’s North America PR representative. It has now officially made clear that the rumors around an upcoming Silent Hill reboot are completely fake, but where did the rumors stem from? I’ll tell you.
After Konami and Hideo Kojima parted ways back in 2015, there was no hope for the revival of the Silent Hills project, especially when Kojima opened his own studio and announced Death Stranding as his next title. On the other hand, although Konami kept making Metal Gear games without Kojima, the company never talked about the Silent Hills project or any new entry from the Silent Hill series.
Out of nowhere, recently, a bunch of rumors started surfacing around the Silent Hill series, with some even suggesting that Sony could claim the rights to the IP, too. Furthermore, these rumors also claimed that SIE Japan Studio would also be working on a reboot of the whole series.
While the rumor was spreading all around the internet, those at Rely On Horror contacted Konami’s North America PR representative to find out whether the rumors were reliable or if they needed to be taken with a grain of salt. Unfortunately, this is the answer they’ve gotten from Konami:
“We’re aware of all the rumors and reports but can confirm that they are not true. I know it’s not the answer your fans may want to hear.
It’s not to say we are completely closing the door on the franchise, just not in the way it is being reported.”
While the response completely rejects all the rumors, it does reveal that the franchise is still alive and it may come back sometime in the future, though we don’t know when and how. While a Sony and Konami collaboration might not seem possible right now, the Japanese publisher could develop a new title Silent Hill title with an alternative team, similar to what happened to Metal Gear Survive back in 2018.
