Serious Sam 4 is the latest in the long-running first-person shooter franchise. Developer Croteam and publisher Devolver Digital decided today was the day to truly pull the curtain back and show the fans what’s coming. Not only did they drop a release window trailer, but they also gave us a cornucopia of gameplay videos showing off the different aspects of the game. Below you’ll find the overview trailer, but if you’re looking for more, check the game’s Steam page.
Like any good Serious Sam game, the focus is all on tons of enemies and great guns. Obviously, the team is holding some surprises back for release, but the videos give you a good idea of what to expect. The team promises plenty of “new toys” to play with, which is awesome news for fans. However, the most exciting feature is likely the Legion system. This lets them put “thousands and thousands” of enemies on screen at once. The hordes you see in the video are super impressive. It’ll be interesting to see how it runs in real-time.
Of course, putting the focus on quantity means they have to sacrifice somewhere else. Obviously, the team isn’t showing us everything, but the environments in the trailers do seem a little bland. Only time will tell, but it would not be surprising if this all comes down to how much horsepower is required to get the Legion system cooking. That said, I’ll take great combat with thousands of enemies over pretty backgrounds any day.
Serious Sam 4 launches on PC and Stadia this August. Expect to see and hear much more about this game at Devolver’s all-digital press conference in the coming weeks.
