With the game having released last month, Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice has already built up a reputation as a particularly challenging game, which is saying a lot coming from Dark Souls developer FromSoftware. However, despite the considerable challenge that Sekiro already presents, one player took it even further by trying to take on the game with an unconventional control method: the infamous Donkey Kong Bongos.
Over on r/Sekiro, ATwerkinYoshi — who regularly streams on Twitch — has managed to conquer Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice by playing the game with a pair of DK Bongos, which is likely to put a lot of other players to shame that haven’t been able to beat the game yet even with a regular controller.
As shown in a video from his YouTube channel, ATwerkinYoshi managed to take advantage of the Bongos and Sekiro‘s rhythm-game-like combat to make it all the way to the end of the game. All in all, it took him about 10 hours and around 131 resurrections to successfully complete the game with the self-imposed DK Bongos challenge, according to his post on r/Sekiro.
In an Imgur post, ATwerkinYoshi also shared the setup that he used in order to be able to play the game with a pair of DK Bongos, which involved hooking them up through a GameCube controller adapter and customizing the inputs on the Bongos through his PC. However, he noted that the customized controller settings meant that he had no use of the camera in-game, which seems like a pretty risky proposition on top of using such an absurd controller.
However, as ATwerkinYoshi noted on Imgur, the main reason that he wanted to take on the challenge was “to see how it felt to counter and attack with bongo beats,” and compared the experience to playing “a punishing rhythm game.”
Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
After 10 hours and 131 deaths to the rhythm, I BEAT @sekirothegame USING JUST DK BONGOS!!
I even went damage-less vs Isshin for 2 phases! I’m looking forward to another run/possible speedruns. For now, my DDR Dance Pad need to be dusted off!#SekiroShadowsDieTwice pic.twitter.com/yZv8CI89P9

Hey so #SekiroShadowDieTwice DK bongos run is actually going good. I was able to beat Lady butterfly really early in the run last night!
I’m counting resurrects as well but having 18 deaths is way better than I expected. pic.twitter.com/CQfxtfijZG
