This week has been a busy one for Resident Evil fans after Capcom officially unveiled a ton of new info for the series’ next mainline installment, Resident Evil: Village. The game has officially been confirmed for release this coming May, and while there is a lot to look forward to in the next chapter in the series, those that want to go back to its predecessor might be able to look forward to some next-gen enhancements.
On Twitter, well-known Resident Evil insider Dusk Golem shared some additional info that wasn’t revealed during yesterday’s RE Showcase by Capcom, including that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard will seemingly get a next-gen upgrade on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, it was also mentioned in their tweets that VR was also in the works for RE Village, but it’s unclear just yet whether the title will support VR functionality at launch. While this is merely a rumor at the moment, previously Dusk Golem was known for sharing accurate details on Resident Evil: Village right before its launch, lending some credibility to the claims.
I know VR was in at some point, I don’t know the current status. To do VR they need a consistent performance for motion sickness, I guess to see. There is other things that are 100% happening they for some reason didn’t mention here though, like the RE7 Next-Gen patch though. https://t.co/1zNHti0k0x

As this year marks the 25th anniversary of the release of the original title, it’s likely that Capcom has a lot more in store to celebrate the series’ milestone that wasn’t announced at the RE Showcase. Aside from RE Village, the studio is also releasing Resident Evil Re:Verse as a free multiplayer experience, which pits players against each other as many of the series’ most iconic heroes and villains. In a similar way, it wouldn’t be too surprising if we end up seeing RE7 get a next-gen upgrade to coincide with the series’ anniversary.
Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
