In a new interview with PlayStation Magazine UK, several new details about the upcoming Resident Evil 3 were revealed. The magazine hits store shelves early next week, but a user on Reddit got ahold of it and uploaded scans of the RE3 cover story. It details several of the changes coming and outlines a few of the team’s design decisions.
Notably, the story reveals that Mercenaries mode will not return in Resident Evil 3. Largely, this comes down to the inclusion of Resident Evil Resistance, the new asymmetrical multiplayer mode included with the Remake. The mode pits four players up against a single mastermind. The mastermind has the ability to add traps and enemies to the world to keep the players from escaping Raccoon City. It’s a new direction for the franchise and it will be interesting to see the fan response. Especially with it taking the place of Mercenaries.
The story also includes a confirmation from Capcom producer Peter Fabiano that the team has done away with the multiple endings from the original. Not much was actually revealed about how the game will handle this, but again, the fan response is going to be something to watch.
They aren’t only getting rid of things though. As expected, Nemesis will build off of the AI Capcom built for DualShockers’ Best Character, Mr. X. I cannot wait to see what they’ve done to improve their Mr. X AI. He was, by far, one of the best parts of 2019. The devs are also fleshing out the character of Carlos Oliviera and making him playable. Again, they didn’t reveal much about this. Simply saying that “Carolos will have his own interesting section to play through”.
Resident Evil 3 will be out on April 3 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. If you want to read the full cover story, I highly suggest you pick up OPM’s latest issue.
