Alongside announcing Resident Evil 3 earlier this week, Capcom also brought back the demo for Resident Evil 2 that appeared earlier this year across all of the game’s platforms. In addition to now making the demo not have a time limit (which it contained when it first released), it seems that Capcom also snuck a rather novel Easter egg into this trial version of the game.
Upon exiting the Raccoon City police station in the new RE2 demo, if you walk about outside you might hear a familiar voice from the Resident Evil series. If you listen closely, you can faintly hear a voice screaming “Starsssssss” in the background.
You can see this in action in the video down below:
As many are likely aware of already of, this is the voice line that Nemesis from Resident Evil 3 often shouts while he’s chasing down Jill Valentine in the game. The term “Stars” is the name of the special-ops group to which Jill, Chris Redfield, and a handful of other characters in the Resident Evil universe belong to. Clearly, he’s trying to stalk Leon here during the events of Resident Evil 2, although he never ends up appearing throughout the experience.
This is a really cool addition to the RE2 demo by Capcom and continues to generate excitement for the release of RE3 in just a few short months. It also makes me wonder if Capcom ended up adding this Nemesis cameo to the full game of Resident Evil 2 rather than just throwing it into this demo. Either way, it’s a pretty cool thing to throw in just for fun. I personally can’t wait to see how Nemesis proper ends up looking once RE3 arrives.
Resident Evil 3 is due out next year on April 3, 2020, for Xbox One, PS4, and PC. The demo for RE2, and the game itself, are both available right this moment on the same platforms.
