The hype train is picking up speed as we edge closer to the official reveal event for upcoming fighter Mortal Kombat 11. In traditional fighting game fashion, images are being drip-fed to blood-thirsty fans to whet their appetite for the release. The latest piece of information comes in the form of an image of Raiden.
Raiden has been a mainstay of the franchise ever since the original Mortal Kombat back in the early ’90s. The thunder god has been a playable character in every installment since with the exception of Mortal Kombat 3.
The latest image, which was shared via Mortal Kombat’s official Twitter page, shows him standing proudly with his staff held in his right hand. His eyes can be seen glowing with a devious red hue under the shadow of this signature hat. Golden armor is dotted around his costume giving the character an air of importance with Shinnok’s amulet acting as a focal point for the chest peice.
It’s worth noting that the padded material underneath is completely black, bringing Raiden back to his “Dark Raiden” days from Mortal Kombat: Deception, which was hinted at in Mortal Kombat X’s story mode.
Mortal Kombat 11’s community reveal event will be taking place on January 17, 2019, at 7 pm GMT/11 am PST and is scheduled to reveal characters, gameplay, and plotlines as well as allowing entrants to engage in the world’s first hands-on trials of the game. Those who can’t make it to London, England for the event can tune in via the live stream.
The game will launch worldwide for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC on April 23, 2019.
