Rage 2 is set to release in a couple of months and it is prepping up to be an interesting experience. On top of that interesting gameplay, the colorful visual style is something that I have been greatly looking forward to. However, some players who were looking forward to a 4K enhanced console version might be a bit disappointed.
Just recently, Hardcore Gamer was able to sit down with Tim Willits, ID Software Studio Director, to talk about some of the plans after launch for Rage 2 as well as the performance of the game on both the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro. He made it pretty clear that the team had decided to improve the frame rate of the game rather than focusing on a 4K 30 FPS mode. He stated:
“To make it simple, on the enhanced consoles, it runs at 1080p 60 FPS. On base hardware, it runs at 30 FPS. On PC, it’s uncapped. We went for speed over 4K for the enhanced consoles.”
Even though some players might be a bit disappointed, I would much rather have an insanely smooth experience compared to a pretty game with a jaggy frame rate. I have to say, after just purchasing an Xbox One X a couple of months ago, I can’t help but be a little saddened. However, I have never been one to complain about graphics or framerates, so I will not begin with it now!
On top of sharing the news about the Xbox One X enhanced version, Willits also shed some light on what is in store for the game this summer. He stated that they have both paid and free content planned for later this year.
“We do have some plans for paid and free content. It is a single player game and we do have some community pushes we’ll talk about in the future. The way our technology works, does allow us to integrate and change the world easier than other games.”
Rage 2 is currently set to release in just a couple of months on PC, PS4, and Xbox One on May 14, 2019. If you are interested in pre-ordering the game, you can do so right here through Amazon.
