Rage 2 is an open-world shooter with RPG elements, tons of unique weapons, a vibrant (and violent) world, and big explosions. Surely, to perform at the same level as other id Software games like DOOM or Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus, the hardware has to be capable of doing so, which does not seem to be the case for the Nintendo Switch.

During PAX East 2019, I sat down with id Software studio director Tim Willits to discuss anything and everything Rage 2. When asked if Rage 2 could even run on a Switch, Willits confirmed that they have looked into bringing it to the platform but have no plans to do so just yet.

“Well, we’ve been looking into it. It’s just the technology, there are some challenges,” Willits says in relation to the technological capabilities of Nintendo’s popular platform. “But we’re always looking for future platforms and future people to work with. So, we like to investigate, but we have no plans for that right now.”

Bethesda has brought many of its games to the Switch as of late. Just to name a few, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, DOOM, and Wolfenstein II: The New Colossus have all been ported to Nintendo’s platform.

In other Rage 2 news, it was announced that the open-world post-apocalyptic shooter, along with DOOM Eternal, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, and Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, will all be releasing on Steam, as well as Bethesda’s own launcher.

Check back soon for the full interview. If you want to know what we think of Rage 2 so far, check out Ryan Meitzler’s preview. Rage 2 will release on May 14, 2019, for PS4, Xbox One, and PC. You can pre-order the game now on Amazon.
