Microsoft held its XO19 event last week in London and one of their biggest focuses was Project xCloud, the company’s streaming platform where players can game on their mobile devices. At the event, it was announced several upcoming updates to xCloud including the addition of Xbox Game Pass. In an interview with Stevivor, xCloud head Kareem Choudhry said the company is working on developing exclusive titles for the service.
“In terms of exclusives, we’re in early talks with first and third parties, but we don’t have any announcements to share,” Choudhry explained. Even though there are discussions with developers, exclusives are not the current priority. “The first thing that we’re doing is… just lifting and shifting content that doesn’t require any development changes into the cloud. So right away we’ve got a platform that can run any of the 3000 games you can run on Xbox today.”
Project xCloud is currently in preview that consumers can register for with over fifty titles to choose from. It is worth noting however that not every person who tries to get in will as it states on the xCloud site that only a limited number of participants will be accepted while more will be let through as time progresses. With all the new studios the company has acquired in the past two years there are a wide variety of first-party studios to create an exclusive experience, but I wouldn’t expect anything to be announced for a long time especially with the big push for the next generation of Xbox, Project Scarlett releasing this upcoming year.
