Quite a few developers are working hard to port their games to Nintendo Switch, and today DualShockers talked to ARK: Survival Evolved Co-Creative Director Jesse Rapczak, asking him if there is hope to see the popular survival game on Nintendo’s console.
Rapczak explained that the studio is excited about the platform, and it seems to be doing well at the moment compared to the Wii U, especially when it comes to third parties. They’re very interested in what is going on with the Switch, and Rapczak himself would personally love to play ARK on the go.
That being said, they don’t have any concrete plans for a port at the moment, as they still need to get through expansion packs and other work that they’re doing, but having gotten through the game’s primary retail release, their engine and technology is ready for future platforms like the Switch.
Yet, it would take a lot of work. The Switch has less memory and lower power than the standard Xbox One, so if Studio Wildcard wanted to port the game to Nintendo’s console, they would have a lot of optimization work to do, and it probably wouldn’t be the exact same game. The team would have to change some things and maybe some features especially for reasons related to memory. At the moment, they don’t quite know what those changes would be, but it would be very exciting for them to work on it if they decided to do that.
ARK: Survival Evolved is currently available for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, and the game just received an update to support Xbox One X, which makes it look a lot prettier than it did on Original Xbox One.
