Ever since EA stopped its annual golf series following 2015’s Rory McIlroy PGA Tour, the video game world has been starved for AAA golfing experiences. While games like The Golf Club and Golf Story are fun, they lack that big name behind them. That began to change in 2018 when 2K Sports published The Golf Club 2019 featuring PGA Tour. And now, 2K is going all-in with their latest announcement PGA Tour 2K21. Check out the teaser below.
Given 2K’s involvement with The Golf Club, this move makes total sense. They’re filling that void EA left and have experience with the genre. It’s not a completely new player trying to hop in. That said, details about PGA Tour 2K21 are obviously light right now. Other than the slick trailer, all we know is that the team needs to give a look at tee height on their iron shots. However, we won’t have to wait long for more news.
2K is dropping what they call the “full details” on May 14. Presumably, that means modes, platforms, and much more. Personally, I can’t wait to see how they jam in an Ultimate Team-like mode into a golf game. Do they just use the Ryder cup to force a team on players? Or do they not even bother making one and just monetize player customization? It will be interesting to see which way they take the game.
With details being so light, we don’t know when or where PGA Tour 2K21 will launch. But check back next week and we’ll have all that information for you. Until then, please go play Golf Story. That game is a delight whether you’re a golf fan or not.
