Since its inaugural league kicked off last year, Overwatch has swiftly become a behemoth of the eSports world. With the game’s official world cup kicking off into its Top 8 bracket next week, Blizzard Entertainment has announced a new tool that will allow fans to watch the events in a number of different ways. It goes by the simple name of Overwatch World Cup Viewer.
Announced yesterday via a Developer Update video, Game Director Jeff Kaplan has taken the time to explain exactly what the Overwatch World Cup Viewer will entail and how it can enhance the overall experience for eSports fans.
The Overwatch World Cup Viewer will allow viewers to take control of the in-game camera to observe the action from different angles including first-person and third-person. It will also allow access to a free cam that can be used to survey the battlefield. On top of this, there are also options for replays and for slow-motion shots.
To top it all off the Overwatch World Cup Viewer also enables fans to access an overall map which displays Heroes’ health, location, and Ultimate status in order to provide an engaging experience that keeps you completely up-to-date with every element of the match in real time.
A beta for the new tool will be available to use alongside the Overwatch World Cup semi-finals and grand finals throughout Friday, November 2 and Saturday, November 3 at BlizzCon 2018. During the 7-minute video which can be viewed below, Kaplan states that the beta would only be available for PC players. However, he also mentions that the beta could provide steps towards this tool being used on both PC and console in the future providing a range of camera options throughout Overwatch both on the competitive gaming scene and as a setting on home copies of the game.
Overwatch is available now on PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4. The popular team-based FPS can be purchased from Amazon.
