Xbox brought a heavy load of gaming-related announcements during their X018 presentation that was hosted in Mexico City yesterday. With that being said, Microsoft’s Phil Spencer also briefly teased projects from studios they have recently acquired; in fact, he gave us a better idea about when exactly we will be learning about the next project from Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice developers Ninja Theory.

During an interview session between Inside Xbox host Julia Hardy and Head of Xbox Phil Spencer, the pair began to pivot towards teasing upcoming studio announcements (which we now know are the acquisitions of Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment). However, during this tease Spencer began to talk about Ninja Theory – a studio acquired by Microsoft Studios back in June 2018.

Ninja Theory are the developers of the critically acclaimed Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice (we gave it a 10) and also the studio behind DMC: Devil May Cry, which made the studio’s acquisition all the more surprising. Since the initial announcement, fans of the studio have been wanting to hear more about any new Xbox-exclusive projects that Ninja Theory are now working on under Microsoft.

Phil Spencer first talked about the thought process behind acquiring a large studio like British developer Ninja Theory, adding that “it’s about that cultural fit for us. Do we have something to add to the studio?”. However, he then teased that fans might hear more about Ninja Theory’s next title as soon as 2019:

“It’s really fun to not only see what Ninja Theory has done in the past, but to look forward to next year and things that might come.”

This statement pretty much guarantees that we’ll be hearing about what Ninja Theory is working on in some way, shape, or form next year. This isn’t the only project tease to come out of X018 this year. In a press release, Microsoft announced that they would be allowing both Obsidian Entertainment and inXile Entertainment to complete existing projects before moving onto “future RPG projects” hinting that there’s more than what we know of in the pipeline at both of these studios.

DualShockers will be sure to let you know when all of these studios finally reveal what new projects they are working on under Microsoft. If you want to see when exactly Phil Spencer said this about Ninja Theory’s new project, you can watch the livestream below.
