A Plague Tale: Innocence is an upcoming adventure game from developer Asobo Studio and publisher Focus Home Interactive. The game takes you on a grim ride through medieval France and features siblings Amica and Hugo. To get a taste of what’s in store, watch the uncut gameplay trailer below.
As you can see, this version of France is completely plague-ridden. Disgusting swarms of rats roam the streets and will gobble up unsuspecting people whenever they drift too close. France is also in the middle of a war, meaning the rat swarms are not the only things Amica and Hugo need to watch out for.
The trailer shows off a few different ways players will be able to deal with and even use the rat swarm. Like Batman, the rats own the night and shy away from light or fire. Players can use that to their advantage to open up new paths that can get them around guards. The trailer had Amica using light beam stations to move the swarm around, even using them to make the rats eat a guard at one point.
Amica is also seen crafting firebombs that she can use to light lanterns and move rats out of an area. Light crafting appears to play a big part in A Plague Tale. Amica can do some quick crafting when she’s out in the streets, but we also see her use a crafting station toward the end of the trailer. It’s easy to see the game really opening up as you gain more crafting options.
Fortunately, you don’t have to wait long to try the game out for yourself. A Plague Tale: Innocence is out on May 14 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
