Developer Mojang announced just a few weeks back that its upcoming dungeon crawler, Minecraft Dungeons, would potentially be delayed out of its planned April launch window as a result of new development pipelines that had come about in the wake of the coronavirus causing developers at the studio to work from home. As of today, Mojang has officially announced that the game has indeed been pushed out of April, but its new, official release date isn’t too much later.
Minecraft Dungeons is now said to officially be launching only a month later on May 26, 2020. The game will be available for pre-order on certain platforms beginning today with the standard version retailing for $19.99 and the “Hero Edition” coming in at $29.99. Additionally, it will also be coming to Xbox Game Pass at launch, just like all other Xbox Game Studios titles.
“As you know, we initially planned to release Minecraft Dungeons by the end of April,” Microsoft said via a press release today. “However, due to the current state of the world, this was no longer possible, as we wanted to guarantee the health and safety of our teams, and empower them to deliver the best possible experience to the community.”
Gather your friends and gear up for adventure: Minecraft Dungeons is coming out May 26th on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Windows, Xbox One and Xbox Game Pass! Pre-order your copy now:

Minecraft Dungeons isn’t the only first-party title from Xbox Game Studios to be technically delayed today, either. Just a few moments ago, inXile Entertainment revealed that Wasteland 3’s launch had been pushed from May to August, mainly due to, once again, COVID-19 and its impact on development. While it’s great to see that the team at Xbox is giving its developers a lot of leeway in these confusing and stressful times, these two delays might imply that the video game industry as a whole could start to see a whole lot of titles other than just those from Microsoft’s first-party studios being pushed back in the coming weeks and months. It will all just depend on how quickly this coronavirus situation can wind down across the world.
Despite being owned by Microsoft, Mojang will still be releasing Minecraft Dungeons on Xbox One, PS4, Switch, and PC when it arrives this May. Stay tuned for coverage on the game from us here at DualShockers around that time.
