It’s been a busy time for Metro Exodus this year, and it’s certainly not over as more review bombings have taken place…although a more positive review bombing.
If you’re unaware, or just fancy a recap, earlier this year Metro Exodus pushed the game heavily as it approached its release month. We saw posters, trailers, and a week of reveals at one point. Then all of a sudden a decision was announced that the game would be removed from Steam and instead was due to be sold as a timed exclusive on the Epic Games Store.
The news didn’t sit well for those who just wanted the game on Steam, and so review bombings took place on the previous two titles. The game is now launched, available for Xbox One, PS4, and PC through the Epic Games Store, however, the positive reviews are flocking in…on Steam.
Since February 15, Metro Exodus’ Steam page —which is still live, you just can’t buy it— has managed to garner 2,741 positive reviews at the time of writing. The results of this have given the game a “Very positive” rating on Valve’s launcher.
There’s a large influx of positive reviews praising 4A Games’ first-person survival shooter, talking about the graphics, the story, and how well it runs:
“One of the best story driven games I have ever played”
“4A team did a masterpiece. This game is art.”
“Would definitely say that this game is worth the purchase, if it ever comes back to Steam.”
That latter comment is pretty much what the majority of reviews being left on Steam are, sly little digs at the Epic Games Store. People appear to be leaving positive reviews on Steam in a bid to make light of the Epic Games Store not having a reviews system in place yet.

And as well as those three above comments left on the page, there’s a lot of text graphics featuring “Epic Store” in between two middle fingers. It’s weird to see Metro Exodus getting a positive reception on a platform it’s not even available on until next year, and it’s also weird to see a rival platform having indirect but direct comments thrown about. Potentially, these are not only just a dig at the exclusivity but also the lack of user reviews available on the Epic Games Store.
Epic Games Founder, Tim Sweeney told Eurogamer that they’re planning on adding a review system that will be opt-in by developers and are “experimenting with other mechanisms to improve this further”. Of course, they’re also busy bagging more Epic Games Store exclusives such as Close to the Sun, World War Z, and The Division 2.
