This week continues to be an exciting one for Metro fans as new information releating to the upcoming Metro Exodus has been released each day this week. On Monday, we learned that the game would include a photo mode. On Tuesday, we received a brand new story trailer. Deep Silver then took Wednesday to unveil the extremely limited but enticing Metro Exodus Artyom Custom Edition.
Today, 4A Games released the first part of a new documentary series titled The Making of Metro Exodus, which gives us a peak behind the curtain regarding Metro Exodus’ development. The Making of Metro Exodus will ultimately be episodes long, with the first part highlighting 4A Games’ history and the early planning stages of Metro Exodus.
Several members of the development team describe the formation of 4A Games in Kiev, Ukraine back in 2005 and how their unique Eastern European flair helped them stand out. As you probably know, the team released Metro 2033 in 2010 and Metro: Last Light in 2014. Both games received the next-gen redux treatment in 2014.
After the release of Metro 2033 Redux and Metro: Last Light Redux, the team at 4A Games went to work on Metro Exodus. With this game, the development team wanted to move out of the tunnels and Moscow, which the first two games take place in, and explore nature and Russia a bit more. As the game takes place of the course of a year, 4A Games made sure that each season stood out both in the colors used and environments visited in that time.
In Winter, snow covers the landscape and more white and muted colors are used. In Fall, players will visit more colorful forests in tune with nature. In Summer, Metro Exodus will use bright colors and have the players traverse through hot deserts filled with rusted ships and buildings. Finally, in Spring, environments will feel more damp and dreary than usual. This video not only informs us about the studio’s history but also gives a glimpse at some of the subtleties of Metro Exodus, so it should definitely be interesting for those curious about game development.
You can check out the first part of The Making of Metro Exodus below. DualShockers will be sure to let you know when the second and third episodes of the series come out. As for the game itself, Metro Exodus will be releasing for PC, PS4, and Xbox One on February 15, and can be pre-ordered on Amazon.
