Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics revealed more of Marvel’s Avengers today in the game’s new War Table live stream which provided us with some new information on the game’s story, gameplay, and overall format.
The presentation for Marvel’s Avengers kicked off with a new story-focused trailer for the game that shed some more light on the narrative. In addition to seeing more of Kamala Khan, this video revealed that the organization A.I.M., and its leader, MODOK (Mechanized Organism Designed Only for Killing) will seemingly serve as some of the primary antagonists. MODOK is out to rid the world of superpowered humans, which obviously puts him directly at odds with the Avengers.
After this trailer, Square Enix then showed off some more extended gameplay from Marvel’s Avengers which features a look at Thor and Hulk doing battle against a series of robotic foes. The gameplay was then broken down more thoroughly afterward and was explained how each member of the Avengers has their own unique attacks.
The stream also showcased many of the different customization items that you can don throughout the course of the experience. Some of these materials were purely cosmetic focused, but others have direct effects on how your respective characters play.
Lastly, Crystal Dynamics also touched on how story missions are broken up and highlighted the Helicarrier, which will seemingly be your main base of operations throughout the experience. You’ll be able to upgrade this locale while you play and will be able to interact with a variety of different Marvel characters such as Nick Fury and Maria Hill here, too.
Marvel’s Avengers is set to release later this year on PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Stadia. PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of the game have also been announced, and those who buy the last-gen editions of the game will be able to upgrade to these iterations once they launch.
