Fans of the Kingdom Hearts series have been waiting well over a decade for the latest mainline entry in the beloved action RPG series, and while Kingdom Hearts III is set to release some time this year, hopefully within a few weeks we’ll know the exact date it is coming, according to the game’s director.
As reported by Eurogamer, during the recent Kingdom Hearts III Premiere Event hosted by Square Enix giving press outlets a look at the upcoming title, the game’s director Tetsuya Nomura explained in a panel that the release date announcement for Kingdom Hearts III will be coming within the next few weeks.
Specifically, Nomura stated that the reveal is expected sometime “early next month,” and added that the game’s development team is making “final adjustments” and that “we are pretty firm on a certain date, so we hope to reveal it next month.”
While obviously there’s no indication just yet of the exact release date, given the fervor and demand for the long-awaited sequel, Kingdom Hearts fans should breathe a little easier knowing that the game’s release date will hopefully be shared very soon by Square Enix.
Given the proximity the timing of this information to E3 2018, it appears that Square may be aiming to announce the release date prior to E3 itself, whether Square will do so on its own before the event, or perhaps to coincide with the Kingdom Hearts Orchestra World Tour, which kicks off concerts this year starting in Los Angeles on June 9th, 2018.
Kingdom Hearts III will release for PS4 and Xbox One in 2018.
