It Takes Two looks like it could be one of 2021’s most surprising video games.
While the quality was never in any doubt, coming from Josef Fares and his Hazelight Studios, I don’t think anybody was expecting such widespread acclaim. Possibly including Fares himself.
The title has gone on to receive an 88-90 aggregate across most platforms on Metacritic, with reviewers praising almost all elements of the game.
For many, one of the best elements of It Takes Two is the co-op gameplay, which is made even sweeter by the Friends Pass. Here’s everything you need to know about the game’s co-op feature.

What is the It Takes Two Friends Pass?
As It Takes Two is entirely co-operative, traditionally, to play online, two players would need to purchase the game.
The It Takes Two Friends Pass negates that need.
Instead, only one player needs to purchase a copy of the game, which will, in turn, allow them to invite a friend, who can then play the game at no extra cost.
How does the It Takes Two Friends Pass work?
On PlayStation and Xbox Platforms, the second player can search and download the Friends Pass from their respective stores – once downloaded, they can be invited straight to the game.
This is the same on PC, via both Origin and Steam, with players being able to be invited straight from the main menu.
While the Friends Pass is available on all platforms, It Takes Two itself isn’t cross-platform. That means players will only be able to play with other people who have the same console as their own.
Players will also need online subscriptions for their relevant consoles, so – PS Plus will be required for PS4/PS5 players and Xbox Live Gold for Xbox One/Xbox Series S|X players.

The good news is, players can use the pass with multiple friends. EA says: “Hosts can only invite one friend at a time, but they can invite another friend once the previous friend has stopped playing.”
