Horizon Forbidden West was among one of the new games that was announced during last month’s PS5 reveal event by Sony, and while it’s hardly an unexpected announcement, it’s still an exciting one for fans of 2017’s Horizon Zero Dawn. Given that the world of the game is rich and filled with interesting characters like Aloy and the numerous tribes she encounters, the possibilities are endless for where the upcoming sequel will take us. Thankfully, Guerrilla is not only expanding on what players will see in Forbidden West, but also giving fans of the franchise a lot more to enjoy through merchandise and other mediums.
Over on the PlayStation Blog, Guerrilla Games shared a bit more news on Horizon Forbidden West. However, instead of focusing on the game directly, the studio detailed a new initiative that is “aimed at extending the world of Horizon beyond video games.” In the blog post, Guerrilla officially revealed “Horizon Raw Materials,” which will expand the Horizon franchise into other mediums and merchandising opportunities.
As part of the announcement, this includes a brand new clothing line that is being produced in collaboration with Insert Coin that is themed around Horizon Forbidden West. A few of the images released by Guerrilla highlight the Horizon clothing line by Insert Coin, and will include a jacket, beanie and pin set, and t-shirt. You can check out each of the clothing line items below, which are all available to pre-order today through Insert Coin’s official website and will begin shipping in mid-August:
In addition to the new clothing line by Insert Coin, Guerrilla also highlighted several other projects that will be considered part of the Horizon Raw Materials branding, which includes the previously-announced board game adaptation and comic series. Horizon Zero Dawn: The Board Game is among these projects after it was launched on Kickstarter in 2018, with the game expected to arrive sometime later this year, with pre-orders available until July 16. Sony also released a new video showing Steamforged Games (the makers of the Horizon board game) bringing the game to the studio of Guerrilla Games to try it out for themselves.
Additionally, Guerrilla Games also highlighted the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn comic book series, which will take place after the events of the original game and follows a new Carja hunter named Talanah. The first issue of the series will be released in stores and digitally on August 5, but a special issue will be released shortly before on July 22 to celebrate Free Comic Book Day.
Sony and Guerrilla highlighted a few other things to look forward to as part of the Horizon Raw Materials collection, including an upcoming limited edition vinyl re-issue of the first game’s soundtrack. Additionally, the music from the reveal trailer for Horizon Forbidden West, called “Promise of the West,” has now been released digitally on platforms such as Apple Music, Spotify, Amazon Music, and more.
Horizon Forbidden West is currently in development for PS5 and expected to release sometime in 2021.
