Famitsu announced that Hideo Baba has resigned from his position as head of Studio Istolia, a studio formed by Square Enix. Hideo Baba has left Square Enix as well as of the end of March 2019.
Studio Istolia is currently working on a PS4 RPG, Project Prelude Rune, which got a new trailer during PlayStation Lineup Tour, the Sony event which preceded Tokyo Games Show 2018 last September.
Square Enix didn’t comment yet on how Hideo Baba’s departure will affect Project Prelude Rune. Famitsu has published Hideo Baba’s resign message, and it doesn’t say anything in particular, besides him wishing the best to Square Enix and Studio Istolia. Previously, Hideo Baba had stated that he wished with Project Prelude Rune to make a current-gen console RPG that both Japanese players and overseas players would enjoy.
Hideo Baba joined Square Enix in October 2016 and founded Studio Istolia through the company. Previously, Hideo Baba used to work at Bandai Namco and was the producer and/or director of most of the recent Tales Of RPGs barring Vesperia and Berseria: The 2006 PS2 remake of Tales of Destiny, Tales of Innocence, Tales of Hearts, Tales of Graces and Graces F, Tales of Xillia 1 and Xillia 2, and Tales of Zestiria.
As usual with these kinds of cases, we’ll probably never know what actually happened and what prompted his depart.
