Streaming apps and digital media are no stranger to the world of video game consoles, as major streaming platforms like Netflix, Hulu, and more have made game consoles a home for huge amounts of TV, movies, and other content. With the upcoming launch of HBO Max later this month, those with a PS4 and Xbox One will have another option for streaming starting next week.
WarnerMedia, the parent company of HBO, has announced that HBO Max will be coming to PS4 and Xbox One with dedicated apps on both systems when the service launches. Both Xbox and PlayStation have been included as part of a series of partners for the launch of HBO’s new streaming service, which will also include Samsung, Verizon, Apple TV, YouTube TV, and more.
Announced last year, HBO Max will offer a new premium streaming service option for subscribers that encompasses a large array of content from WarnerMedia. Specifically, this includes HBO’s library of original series, documentaries, specials, and more, while also bringing in content from other Warner networks and channels.
So far, that includes series such as Rick and Morty, Doctor Who, South Park, Friends, and more, alongside original series and other content being produced specifically for HBO Max. Some of the announced new programs and specials for the service includes a Friends reunion special, a revival of Gossip Girl, and the long-rumored “Snyder Cut” of the DC Extended Universe’s Justice League, which will debut in May 2021.
HBO Max will officially debut on May 27, 2020, and will cost $14.99 a month for subscribers. Those with a subscription to HBO Now will automatically have access to new content from HBO Max. However, those that are coming to the service new can pre-order a subscription before May 27 for a lower $12/month cost for the first year.
