One of the biggest selling points for Halo Infinite over the past year is that the game, whenever it launches, will be available on the entire Xbox family of devices. Whether you own the new Xbox Series X, an Xbox One, or even a PC, you’ll be able to play 343’s latest installment in the long-running shooter franchise. However, a recent rumor that has started to circulate is now claiming that this might not be the case after all.
Coming by way of VGC, a new rumor that was found on the forum Resetera claims that 343 might look to dump the Xbox One SKU of Halo Infinite. User Sponger, who has in the past leaked information related to Xbox Game Studios says that 343 internally is struggling to optimize Infinite for the Xbox One S, which is the least-powerful platform in which the title will be releasing on. “The current version of Halo Infinite on Xbox One S is nowhere near 1080p (even lower than 900p) and is having serious asset loading issues (much worse that you have seen on PC demo,” the user put forth.
They went forward to state that 343 is in a “messy” state when it comes to making decisions at the moment. The studio is also dead-set on ensuring that Halo Infinite needs to be the best game in the history of the franchise, and as such, 343 would even consider pushing the game further back out of 2021 if needed.
Obviously, there is a lot that is being put forward by Sponger here and none of it is verifiable whatsoever, so take all of this with a massive grain of salt. That being said, what’s being expressed in some ways isn’t too far-fetched. It stands to reason that 343 would likely be struggling to adapt the title, which is being developed with next-gen in mind, for older hardware. Furthermore, the fact that 343 and Microsoft were willing to delay the game out of 2020 to begin with likely shows that they’d do anything it takes to make this the game that it needs to be. So if that includes canning the Xbox One iteration, so be it.
Still, there has already been pushback on what this Sponger fellow is claiming. Other industry insiders with connections to Microsoft and Xbox Game Studios have said that no matter what murmurs are transpiring right now, Halo Infinite will surely still be coming to Xbox One when it releases. “I’m willing to bet money that this isn’t going to happen,” said Windows Central’s Jez Corden of the rumors.
There’s a rumor Halo Infinite on Xbox One might be cancelled, going Xbox Series S/X-exclusive.

It might very well be awhile until we see or hear anything new from Halo Infinite, but until then, all we know is that it’s set to release next year at an undetermined date.
