While Half-Life: Alyx didn’t appear last week during The Game Awards 2019 like it was originally planned, new information and footage on the game has now come about in a rather unconventional way.
Revealed via the YouTube channel Tested, a variety of new gameplay footage for Half-Life: Alyx has now been shown off. The footage that can be seen in the video isn’t the focus by any means, however, and is only shown offscreen. Instead, this video is meant to show how Half-Life: Alyx will work with the litany of different VR headsets that are on the market.
Still, if you watch the full video (which is over 30-minutes long), you’ll see some of the interesting features that Alyx seems to have in store. Some of the more intriguing bits of footage that we can see though involves the hand-tracking functionality that some VR controllers come with. We can also get a few decent looks at how gunplay will work in the game and are able to make out some combat encounters with some classic Zombie enemy types.
All in all, while there’s not a lot to go off of here that might indicate where Half-Life: Alyx will take players, the experience on display seems quite impressive. Considering the footage we’re seeing here likely isn’t finalized, either, it stands to reason that the finished product will be even better.
If you want to check out the full video, you can watch it in full down below. Half-Life: Alyx is set to release at an unspecified date in March 2020. It will be available for play on Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, Valve Index, and Windows Mixed Reality headsets when it arrives via Steam.
