Could Sony Santa Monica be working on a fantasy-themed game for the PS5?
If you remember back in January this year, we heard about a leak that suggested Naughty Dog could have a fantasy-themed game up their sleeves due to discovered artwork. Naturally, nothing official has ever been confirmed, but it certainly provided much food for thought.
Following in the same vein, a job listing has been spotted over on Santa Monica’s website that could suggest, just like Naughty Dog, that a fantasy-type narrative could be in the pipeline for development on the PS5 from the God of War devs.
Living in a Fantasy World
The job description in question states that the studio is looking for a Senior Character Concept Artist with “strong design skills with the ability to render realistic believable fantasy-based characters, creatures, and props using contemporary industry-standard tools and techniques.”
What makes this interesting is the usage of the word “fantasy-based characters” and also further along in the advert, it gets even more exciting.
The studio also asks the right person applying to be able to “develop and maintain strong creative and collaborative partnerships across subject areas to help further develop the in-game characters, visual language, and rule sets for fantasy-based worlds.”
As we can see, the word “fantasy” pops up again towards the end, this time surrounding its world.
Fans of the series will know that previous entries into the long-running series were inspired by Greek mythology while God of War 2018 is based on Norse mythology. It’s certainly not out of the realm of thinking to believe that maybe we could see Kratos, or a completely new IP, entering into a magical fantasy world.
Obviously, this is just speculation and nothing has been confirmed so this apparent leak needs to be taken with a pinch of salt as it could be for the new God of War: Ragnarok (or whatever it will end up being called).

As of now, we still have no title yet for the unnamed sequel to God of War but, as it stands, it is still slated down to happen this year, apparently. To keep yourself occupied until whenever it does launch, check out the God of War: Fallen God comic.
