Coming off of this year’s release of Gears 5, the series’ future is looking especially bright and full of possibility. Aside from the mainline installments of the franchise, this also includes several new spin-offs on the horizon, with the upcoming Gears Tactics officially set to debut this spring.

During The Game Awards 2019, Microsoft officially confirmed that Gears Tactics will be releasing on April 28, 2020 on Xbox One and PC, with a new trailer for the game also showcasing its strategical take on the Gears series.

As seen in the trailer, Gears Tactics will be taking place sometime around the setting of the original Gears of War trilogy and showing players the early history of humanity’s war with the Locusts, all while giving viewers a closer look at Tactics‘ turn-based strategy gameplay that is fairly reminiscent of XCOM.

In addition to the release date and new trailer, it was also confirmed that the campaign of Gears Tactics will be over 40 hours long, ensuring that Gears fans are in for a hefty experience. It also appears that there will be some form of customization to allow players to create their own personalized team of COG soldiers.

Gears Tactics was first unveiled at E3 2018 last year alongside another spin-off title for the series, Gears POP!, but since then the game has been relatively quiet on new developments after not appearing at E3 this year. Thankfully, that silence has now been broken, and with the game coming out this April, we won’t have too much longer to wait to see it in action.

Gears Tactics is releasing for Xbox One and PC on April 28, 2020. For a closer look at the game, you can check out the new trailer from The Game Awards 2019 below:
