FromSoftware’s most recent release was that of Déraciné, a VR adventure game that was a far cry from the other action titles that the studio has become synonymous with. When the game released just a few months ago, the Internet was set ablaze after fans found that it contained an Easter egg that seemed to imply a sequel to Bloodborne could be arriving.
Well, in a new interview with FromSoftware’s Hidetaka Miyazaki, he seemed to state that fans shouldn’t read much into that Easter egg. Miyazaki described its inclusion as “overboard” and said that despite how much he and his studio love the Bloodborne property, they feel like it conveyed the wrong things.
Miyazaki’s full statement regarding the recent Bloodborne Easter egg said as follows:
I’m sorry for getting everyone’s hopes up, but we only put in those Easter eggs for fun. Many people on Déraciné’s staff, and of course myself, really love Bloodborne, so we wanted to put references to it… But we went overboard. We’re reflecting on it.
To further explain the Easter egg in question, Déraciné contained a doll that you could find which then performed the Make Contact gesture, which was seen in Bloodborne. In addition to both games sharing this gesture, the item description of the doll stated, “A doll of the stone girl Fiona who appears in the unfinished tale. When a person has a bad dream, Fiona appears and helps them flee.” As you can likely guess, many concluded that the “unfinished tale” part of the description was in regards to another Bloodborne game implying that its story was not yet over.
While the Déraciné Easter egg and its ties to a Bloodborne sequel made a lot of sense when the game first came out, it seems like you’d be better off not getting your hopes up for a follow-up installment just yet. Hopefully, one day FromSoftware and Sony will be able to return to the property, even if that might not be happening any time soon.
