Square Enix release the transcript of its quarterly earnings conference call, and it included some interesting info about the performance of its games, including Final Fantasy XIV and Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age.
President Yosuke Matsuda mentioned that sales of Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age for PS4 have been “brisk” since the game’s launch at the beginning of July. The same was said about NieR: Automata repeat sales.
Matsuda-san also had positive data to share about Final Fantasy XIV, explaining that paying subscribers are at a “record high” since the release of the Stormblood expansion on June 20th. A few days ago we learned that the game surpassed ten million registered users, but that figure represented anyone who created an account, including free trials. Here Matsuda-san is specifically talking about paying subscribers.
The company expects Stormblood to make a “sustained contribution” to earnings going forward.
During the latter half of the call, as part of a Q&A session, Matsuda-san explained that the MMO sub-segment of the business saw the biggest outperformance of the company’s expectations, with sales growing by several billion yen. This was due to them being overly conservative in estimating the boost Stormblood would provide.
