There’s a good chance that you’ve been hearing more and more about Final Fantasy XIV as this generation has gone on. What started out in an extremely rough state when the MMO first launched back in 2013 has gone on to be one of the most popular games in the genre at this very moment. And now, if you’re looking to give the game a shot for yourself, Square Enix is giving you the perfect opportunity to do so.
From now until next week on May 26, Square Enix has made the Final Fantasy XIV Starter Edition completely free for those on PS4 via the PlayStation Store. This iteration of the game will give you 30 days of free access, which is a pretty sizable trial period for an MMO. If you’ve been eager to test the game out given how much praise it has received in recent years, now might be your best chance to do so.

It’s worth noting though that only the base game of FFXIV is what is available for play in this version of the game. Additional expansions, such as last year’s launch of Shadowbringers, will not be included here. Still, if you end up liking what you play of the MMO in this free phase, you could then snag all of the DLC expansions afterward and dive in even deeper.
While this free version of Final Fantasy XIV is only available for free on PS4, the game is also available to play on PC right now.
