Well, this is a bit of a mad one from EA, isn’t it? With Team of the Year players all in packs, I think everyone in the FIFA 21 community expected EA to put out a new Player SBC at some point today. However, I don’t think anyone had a Flashback Cristiano Ronaldo on their bingo card. For starters, he already has a TOTY card available.
Sure, no one is going to pack that card. But it still seems weird to put this SBC out in place of another player. It’s also a flashback to Ronaldo’s days back in the Premier League, so it’s a step down from his modern cards. We’ve seen this before with the Flashback Sergio Aguero card, but that step back didn’t seem as drastic. Plus, given the licensing agreements, they can’t actually put Ronaldo on Manchester United. So, he’s still a Serie A card.
On top of all this, there are several other players out there that don’t already have a card currently in packs. If I were EA, I’d save this release for later down the line and give us someone like, I don’t know, Thomas Muller.
That all said, it’s not a terrible card, I’m just not sure who’s going to use it. As a right-winger, he feels a bit out of place. He’s not as defensive as Hakimi’s One To Watch card. Nor can he bang in goals like Hirving Lozano’s Headliner or Lautaro Martinez’s FUT Freeze. Granted, he’s coming in much cheaper than those latter two cards, but it definitely feels like one you can skip if you’d like. That said, below are some solutions to give you a bit of inspiration if you decide to complete him.
FIFA 21 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
