Fallout 76 Development Roadmap Outlines What’s Coming in 2020

Initially launched in fall 2018, Fallout 76 had a noticeably rough start and took some time to get going. As the first multiplayer-focused installment of the RPG series, Fallout 76‘s take on an MMO-styled Fallout game had its growing pains, but over time Bethesda Game Studios has put a lot of attention into fleshing out what it has to offer. That of course has included the recent Wastelanders update that brought several game-changing features like NPCs and new storylines, and now Fallout 76 is growing even bigger with new content outlined for this year.

Publisher Bethesda Softworks officially revealed its content roadmap for the remainder of 2020 to give players an idea of what is store for the game for the rest of the year. Specifically, the biggest new addition of the roadmap is the integration of “Seasons,” which will each introduce new content through a season pass-style system, along with new player rewards and items earned by completing challenges. Presented in the style of a board game, the Seasons system will be “a complete overhaul” for the game’s current Challenges and rewards system that has all players working towards the same rewards and loot. Starting at the beginning of the board, players can earn items and rewards by completing various objectives and in-game challenges and work their way towards the end goal, which is Rank 100, which will give players an “End of Season” item bundle. However, daily and weekly Challenges won’t completely go away, and instead will help players earn SCORE points that they then can use to progress on the Seasons challenges.

However, aside from earning these rewards by completing Challenges, players will also have the ability to use Atom to unlock their way through the Seasons progression board more quickly. Players can spend 150 Atoms to unlock a level in the progression board, with some limitations outlined in the update’s blog post.

Overall, Bethesda said that it will plan to have four Seasons per year in Fallout 76 that will run for about 10 weeks, with a break in-between when the next Season will begin. Additionally, as shown in the Roadmap, each Season will have its own unique theme and set of Challenges to keep things fresh for players, which seemingly will include new storylines and other narrative content. Specifically, in this winter’s “Fractured Steel” Season, the Brotherhood of Steel seems to be making their way into Appalachia, which will introduce “new NPCs, quests, and companions” to the game.
