It might look like a fancier and magical Sea of Thieves which lets you boop wild animals on the nose, but Rare’s new IP Everwild which was revealed last night during the X019 live stream is still only in pre-production. According to VGC, the title has a team that is approaching 50 people behind the development of the new IP.
Rare has actually been seeking new members to join the team with more than 25 jobs being available at the Twycross studio in the UK.
The team currently working on the title includes Louise O’Connor who has worked on the animation for Conker’s Bad Fur Day and Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts. Louise was announced as the executive producer of Everwild last night. Joining her is Simon Woodroffe as the creative director, having previously been the creative director behind his last game Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed.
Ryan Stevenson will be in charge of the visual direction for the title as Rare’s studio art director and had previously been leading the art for Sea of Thieves and Viva Pinata. The lead programmer of Sea of Thieves and the Kinect Sports series, Pete Campbell is joining the Everwild team as the technical director. Joining the team as the senior narrative designer is Kate Watson, previously a writer on the Total War series for developer Creative Assembly.
“While Everwild is still early in development, we are very excited about the unique potential of the game we are creating,” said Craig Duncan, the studio head. “The Everwild team is focused on building an experience that allows for new ways to play in a natural and magical world,”
While the new IP seems to be an exciting new journey for Rare, they have stressed that the studio is still going to be remaining committed to the wacky, boat-sailing pirate title Sea of Thieves.
