Taipei Game Show 2020 will be running from February 6 to 9. PlayStation recently published the list of PlayStation platforms games present at the event, with an indication to show whether they’ll have “video footage” or not, and whether they’ll be playable or not. The list most notably features two highly anticipated Bandai Namco games, Elden Ring and Tales of Arise.
However, there is no indication from PlayStation as to whether the trailer footage shown at Taipei Game Show 2020 for either Elden Ring and Tales of Arise will be new trailers or not. I personally believe it’s very unlikely the trailers will be new trailers, and they will probably be each game’s previously released latest trailer, but subtitled in Chinese. This means the E3 2019 trailer for Elden Ring, and the Tokyo Game Show 2019 trailer for Tales of Arise.
While the possibility of new announcements and trailers isn’t 100% excluded, Taipei Game Show usually focuses on showing off upcoming Chinese localized versions of games which we already saw a lot of and are coming out very soon, or games already released in Japan. This is the case of 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim (check out our let’s play), or Ys IX: Monstrum Nox, which will be present at the event.
Elden Ring is a collaboration between FromSoftware and Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin.. We don’t know much about the game besides that it’s an action RPG. While the percentage of who’s writing what in Elden Ring between George R.R. Martin and Hidetaka Miyazaki is currently unknown, Miyazaki mentioned it’ll have similar storytelling than Dark Souls. This is a departure from Sekiro, which had much more direct storytelling because Hidetaka Miyazaki didn’t directly write the script himself. Elden Ring has no release window yet and is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
Tales of Arise is the newest Tales of JRPG, coming out in 2020 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. While the game looks pretty, we haven’t seen any actual gameplay or heard about the game systems yet, so I’m personally not that hyped about it for now. We had some interesting story details though. In any case, we’ll be covering Taipei Game Show 2020 so stay tuned.
