Electronic Arts will be returning to Los Angeles this June once again with EA Play, the publisher’s annual event held in proximity to E3 each year. This year, however, EA seems to be shaking things up quite a bit compared to in the past.
It was announced today that EA Play will run from June 7 until June 9 in 2019. What’s different here off the bat is that June 7 is a Friday, which is different from the event’s typical start date of Saturday. There will be a kickoff event transpiring on Friday night to get EA Play started before the fanfest days take place over the weekend. The Hollywood Palladium will once again be the location where EA Play is held.
Furthermore, EA also announced it will be skipping out on holding a press conference altogether at EA Play this year. Instead, EA says it will have multiple streams spread out across two days during Friday and Saturday. EA states that this decision to skip the press conference is in response to fans who have previously stated that they just want to see more gameplay footage and hear more from the creators who are working on the games directly.
You’d have to imagine that Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order will be the company’s biggest new title to reveal details on at EA Play this year. With an upcoming reveal planned for April, EA Play will likely be the first place where we receive extensive details on Respawn’s Star Wars game. Respawn’s Apex Legends will also surely be highlighted at the show as well considering its massive success as of late.
If you’re trying to attend EA Play for yourself this June, tickets should start going on sale next month. And if you can’t make it out to Los Angeles, then fear not, as EA says it will be streaming from EA Play over the course of the entire weekend. More details on the event will also be shared in the coming weeks and months.
Even though it’s maybe a bit upsetting to some that EA won’t be holding a press conference this year, this new EA Play does seem to give fans more of what they’ve been asking for. We’ll see if the change in format works out later this summer.
