Thankfully 2020 is finally starting to wind down, which I think is something all of us are looking forward to heading into 2021. However, there’s still one quarter left to look back at the best games that have come out in the past few months with Game of the Year around the corner. So, once again it’s time for us to deliberate!

For those joining us for the first time, this year at DualShockers we decided to do things a little differently for our annual Game of the Year discussions. This time around, we are breaking down our GOTY deliberations by quarter and looking at the best games that have released within three-month periods. With the end of 2020 in sight, that means this time around we’re looking at Q4 and the games that we’ve put time into from October – December 2020. For a recap of the past three quarters, you can check out our full Q1 (January – March), Q2 (April – June), and Q3 (July – September) discussions.

You can watch our entire fourth quarter 2020 discussion below with the DualShockers staff. This time around we have a pretty large gathering of the team including Mario Rivera (Video Manager), Ryan Meitzler (Editor-in-Chief), Ricky Frech (Reviews Editor), Otto Kratky (Executive Editor), Nick Blain (Video Editor), Scott White (Video Editor), Kris Cornelisse (Staff Writer), Cameron Hawkins (Staff Writer), Camilo Olmedo (Associate Staff Writer), with special guests Michael Ruiz and Logan Moore.

Obviously, Q4 in particular was a busy one with the release of several of this year’s biggest games, let alone the launch of the next-gen consoles, the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Naturally, this led to a pretty in-depth and lengthy conversation, but through nearly 2 and a half hours of discussion, we touched on nearly all of the big (and small) releases from the past three months. Included in the mix are games like Assassin’s Creed ValhallaYakuza: Like a DragonBugsnaxThe PathlessDemon’s Souls, and many, many other games that we’ve highlighted from this year’s busy holiday season.

With this being our final quarterly discussion for the year, of course that begs the question: when will we announce our Game of the Year pick? The answer is that you’ll find out very soon; our official Game of the Year Award nominations will be coming on Wednesday, December 23, which will also kick off our Readers’ Choice voting for two awards: Game of the Year – Readers’ Choice and Most Anticipated Game – Readers’ Choice. Additionally, the community will also get a say in our site-wide Game of the Year Awards with a collective community vote, which you’ll find out more about on Wednesday.

As always, we want to give a big thanks to our community for watching our quarterly GOTY discussion videos and, more importantly, want to know your thoughts about our different approach to GOTY discussions this year. Feel free to let us know in the comments how you liked it, what can be improved, and if you’d like to see us return to this format heading into 2021.
