Sony seems to have finally found a more cost-efficient answer to other controllers on the market such as Microsoft’s Xbox One Elite controller or Scuf’s Vantage models. Well, sort of.
Announced today over on the PlayStation Blog, Sony revealed that the DualShock 4 will soon be receiving a new accessory called the Back Button Attachment. Much like the name suggests, this plug-in device adds two buttons onto the back of your controller and lets you map various inputs from your DualShock 4 to these added buttons. The Back Button Attachment also comes with various profiles, so that your personalized settings don’t happen to get mixed up with someone else’s who may use it.
Likely the best part about the Back Button Attachment for the DualShock 4 is that it’s drastically cheaper compared to other high-end controllers on the market that give you back button/trigger functionality. The accessory from Sony only retails for $29.99, meaning that you don’t need to break the bank wide open to give yourself the same functionality of other premiere controllers that are available.
Still, if you do decide to drop a whole lot of money on some of those aforementioned controllers, you’ll surely be getting a better experience. This Back Button Attachment honestly looks kind of poorly made, at least to me. Maybe it feels better to use than it looks, though.
You can check out the trailer down below if you’d like to see more of how the Back Button Attachment will work with the DualShock 4 controller. This new device is slated to begin hitting store shelves in just about one month and will launch on January 23.
