During the Japanese broadcast of February 13’s Nintendo Direct, Bandai Namco Entertainment and Nintendo announced Doraemon Nobita no Bokujou Monogatari, a brand new Story of Seasons game but with characters from kids anime franchise Doraemon.
In Doraemon Nobita no Bokujou Monogatari, players control Doraemon‘s protagonist Nobita and manage a farm. You’ll get to grow crops, raise animals and more, along with Nobita, Doraemon and their friends. Seems like the game will also have festivals like in every Story of Seasons games, and the Harvest Goddess is there too.
Doraemon’s original manga and anime feature Nobita, a young boy who’s basically a good-for-nothing, until he meets Doraemon, a strange blue creature from the future with many different helpful gadgets in its pocket. Most of the time, Doraemon gives a gadget to Nobita, who then either gets it stolen from his friends, or Nobita himself misuses it and receives some kind of moralistic punishment with the gadget going berserk or ending up causing him trouble.
Doraemon’s most famous gadget is the Anywhere Door (Dokodemo Door in Japanese) which lets the user teleports anywhere they want. The Anywhere Door and Doraemon’s other gadgets are present in Doraemon Nobita no Bokujou Monogatari, but we still don’t know how they’ll be used gameplay-wise.
Story of Seasons is popular in Japan, but Doraemon itself is massively popular there and this game will definitely sell like croissants. Doraemon had multiple anime seasons, games and movies since 1973, and the 2014 movie, Stand By Me Doraemon, had its theme song as one of the most sung songs at karaokes in 2018. Stand By Me Doraemon was the first 3DCG anime movie of the franchise and a massive success, and now, the movie’s staff is planning to reiterate this success with the first 3DCG anime movie of the Dragon Quest franchise.
Doraemon Nobita no Bokujou Monogatari will release sometime in 2019 exclusively on Nintendo Switch. The game’s first screenshots can be seen below, along with the first trailer. Doraemon is much less popular in the west, but still widely known, and I definitely want more Story of Seasons, so hopefully, the game will get localized.
On the same Nintendo Direct, it was also announced that Rune Factory, the fantasy action RPG spinoff of Story of Seasons, is miraculously coming back on Nintendo Switch, with the remaster Rune Factory 4 Special and a brand-new Rune Factory 5.
